Being Deleted

The idea of being deleted from the internet is something that i don't have that strong of feelings about right now. I like being on facebook and i like that people can access the information about me. If i were to try and delete info about me i guess that i realized when i started that it was out there and there wasn't much going back so i guess that i am kind of uninterested in this idea of taking yourself off the internet. I think more people should be on there to grow a greater community and people should be open for all to learn and communicate with.

So I just found out last Thursday that my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. I don't really know how to respond to this. It is hard for our family as it would be i guess for most families. I only write this not so you can feel sorry for me or my family but because i believe in the power of pray and positive thinking and i think that the more people are putting out good energy into the world for my family the better chance she has of beating this thing. So if you can it would be great if you would be thinking good thoughts for our family and for my mom.

Procrastination a curse or a gift?

Okay so If you are reading this you know that I haven't posted in a while. I am a huge procrastinator. I wait to the last minute to do all of my work. I am always the student who is studying for a test right up to the last minute not because I am an over achiever but because I only started studying about 30 minutes earlier. I don't know the last time that I actually started studying for something more than 5 hours before the test.
Now you probably think this sounds all bad. But I really enjoy learning but I find it ridiculous to spend my life learning information I will never use. For those that spend hours studying and writing papers probably don't know what is going on in pop culture near as much as i do.
Okay i know that i sound ridiculous but i like procrastinating but i think it leaves me with a feeling of regret far more than a feeling of getting away with something.

Post dispatch

After reading the post dispatch article I have to say that I do share the concern for people that are being harassed and even the suicide incident honestly bother me. I do think it a little impractical to avoid all internet bulling. It is important for parents to provide as filtering system for children that are to young to handle abusive language. I think that it a horrible thing but i think it is also some sort of censorship that I completely against.

Pax Christi

I don't know how many of you know about Pax Christi but it is a anti-violence group on campus and we were affiliated with campus ministry. The name means the peace of Christ. I am not supper spiritual but I found a home in this group when I first transfered to SLU. Well, at the beginning of the semester we were informed by campus ministry that we were no longer a part of their covering and we would have to find a new department to sponsor us or go out on our own as a chartered student organization. I had no personal connection to campus ministry other than i felt the group was strongly tied to what I saw as Christian/ catholic values. It is really dis hearting that it seems like there is no outlet for students who want to live a peaceful passivist lifestyle. That avenue has been taken away from us on campus. I am pretty upset about all of this and it is discouraging to see that campus ministry doesn't take the idea of peace and non-violence seriously.

So, this online class is going pretty smoothly for me. I am having a few issues one being that I am a huge procrastinator so I have been putting the assignments off to the last minute and I don't feel like I am really contributing to the discussions very much. My second problem is I am getting worried that I don't have enough computer knowledge to keep up. Some of the articles we have read have been kind of confusing to me and I get worried that I won't be able to keep up. I do like the independent learning aspect of this though.

The idea of this new technology generation resonates with me. I notice that I am that student that often is multitasking in class but I still understand almost all of what is being said. I also know that when I am in class and the professor says something that interests me I often write it down and then type it into google to find out more information on it. I have even done that in the middle of class before. It is really important as teachers to understand the culture in which our students are living and if they are living in a technology culture there is no need to buck against that and use traditional methods of teaching. Reach the kids where they are.
